ORLANDO\u00a0\u2014 Disney Parks announced this week the opening date for its new Avatar-themed\u00a0land, revealed a new fireworks show coming to Walt Disney World, and announced\u00a0the opening date (well, actually it\u2019s just the opening\u00a0year)<\/em>\u00a0for its new Star Wars-themed lands coming to both coasts.<\/p>\n

\u201cPandora \u2013 The World of Avatar\u201d\u00a0will open at Disney\u2019s Animal Kingdom in Florida\u00a0on May 27, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced this week. The land, inspired by James Cameron\u2019s \u201cAVATAR,\u201d will be a 12-acre land that will immerse guests into the world of Pandora.<\/p>\n

The land will include floating mountains, bioluminescent rainforests, and flying \u201cBanshees,\u201d Disney said in a news release.<\/p>\n

\u201cRivers of Light,\u201d an all-new nighttime show at Disney\u2019s Animal Kingdom, will begin shows on Feb. 17.<\/p>\n

The 15-minute show was originally set to debut last April, however technical issues delayed the opening of the show until this month.<\/p>\n

The theatrical show celebrates nature and its connection with humans by combining live performances, floating lanterns, and special effects.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the show\u2019s finale, we hope guests will feel like they have been on a tremendous ceremonial and visual journey,\u201d said Michael Jung, Walt Disney Imagineering creative director. \u201cRivers of Light really provides an affirmation of life and reminds us of the beauty and fragility of the natural world we all share \u2013 with animals and one another.\u201d<\/p>\n

Disney also announced the new Star Wars-themed lands planned for Walt Disney World and Disneyland will open in 2019.<\/p>\n

The 14-acre lands will be based on the blockbuster movie franchise.<\/p>\n

The new lands will feature two new attractions, including a ride that lets visitors pilot the Millennium Falcon.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt each location, guests will be transported to a never-before-seen planet \u2013 a remote trading port and one of the last stops before wild space \u2013 where Star Wars characters and their stories come to life,\u201d Disney said in a news release.<\/p>\n

Also this week, Disney announced\u00a0\u201cHappily Ever After,\u201d a new nighttime fireworks show that will premiere at Magic Kingdom in Florida\u00a0on May 12.<\/p>\n

\u201cWishes,\u201d the current fireworks show at the park, premiered in 2003.<\/p>\n
